The Humboldt Center for Constitutional Rights, or HumRights, is an incorporated 501(c)(3) nonprofit that works to protect civil liberties by providing legal representation to clients who believe their constitutional rights have been violated. HumRights is committed to furthering the public understanding of the fundamental human rights protected by the U.S. Constitution — with a specific focus on First Amendment rights. Arcata-based attorney Jeffrey Schwartz founded HumRights back in the mid-2000s.
In the photo to the right, nude activists pose on Strawberry Rock, just north of the town of Trinidad in Humboldt County, where a local lumber company plans to clear cut old growth Redwood trees. Environmental photographer Jack Geisteidt is able to capture such photos at protest sites without fear of governmental reprisal knowing that HumRights is there for him.
