To ensure that every member of our Humboldt County community feels confident in expressing his or her constitutional rights and empowered by the knowledge that the Humboldt Center for Constitutional Rights is ready to defend those rights, should they be violated.
Get behind our mission: the three goals of HumRights
Please take a second to read over our three main areas of concentration. We are a new nonprofit, so we anticipate that these goals will change as we continue to grow and expand. We will make sure to update you as they do!
ESTABLISH THE FIRST AMENDMENT FUND
This fund would be used to cover the legal expenses that come from representing our clients — either as defense counsel in criminal actions or plaintiff counsel in civil action suits. Examples of legal expenses include filing court documents, hiring private investigators and miscellaneous court fees. These expenses would not include attorney fees.
RECRUIT QUALIFIED ATTORNEYS
We would be looking for young attorneys looking to gain court experience, as well as more experienced lawyers sympathetic to our mission.
PROVIDE COMMUNITY EDUCATION
North Coast residents should feel confident expressing their protected rights in Humboldt County, and know that there are options, should they be wrongly arrested while expressing those rights. We would like to work with community officials to provide further education on the importance of these rights.
